About Our School: School Culture: Families

Our families complete a vital link in our school community, uniting teachers and students with the world at home and all around us.

We love to hear stories about how our learning and living move from school to home, and back again!  Here's what families have to say about their experiences at HIS:

One of the things I enjoy so about our children attending HIS it that I have to drop them off and pick them up. It is wonderful to have them captive in the car after pick-up to hear all about their day while it is still fresh in their minds. My daughter is always very excited to share what she learned in Spanish – whether it is a new word or song – she is so proud to ‘teach’ both myself and her little sister.

Our family spent the week in Disneyworld over our recent school break. Each morning when we boarded the monorail instructions were announced in English and Spanish. The first day she yelled out, “Mommy, Daddy, they are speaking Spanish.” We were impressed that she could tell that it was indeed Spanish and not another language being spoken. The next day she told us all to get ready to hear Spanish again as the announcements began in English. “Puerta,” she exclaimed, “means door, right?” Now we were really amazed and proud to say the least!

It was wonderful to see what was learned in the classroom to be taken out into the real world – especially for a five year old. Thanks, HIS!

I just wanted to thank you for providing my son with such a wonderful learning environment this year. He has enjoyed your class in so many ways and learned so much from you. You have given him the tools to develop into a life-long learner and allowed him the space to grow into a deeper sense of his true self - there are, in my opinion, no greater gifts a teacher can bestow.

As a parent I feel blessed to have a teacher (and extended teachers) care so deeply about my children, [and] really get to know them and all their blossoming talents...Thanks for all you do, for your passion, and for your commitment.
My favorite [community service] activities were C.A.N. or ‘children aiding the needy’ and "Help from My Friends."

[C.A.N.] involved picking up and disposing of cans and trash, in exchange for donations from family supporters. Funds were sent to victims of hurricane Katrina.

["Help from My Friends"] sold student-recorded CDs in order to raise over $300 for Heifer International.

It’s small, local projects like these that plant the seed of community awareness and concern for others that these kids can further develop as they grow into adult citizens of NH.

WOW! WOW! and WOW!  Just a note to say how impressed I was with last night's [Theatre Night] performance by the kids.  I was so moved by their diligence while undertaking a piece of such intense emotional proportion.  Kudos to those students!  They can be very proud of their abilities.  I know I was touched by the evening and felt terrific that the kids could end their school week on such a high note...
